Correct or remove a record
Most of the people this database holds information about never signed up for anything. Their dog arrived from an archive whose operator gave us permission, and that settles the operator's side and settles nothing about them. So this route needs no account, no explanation and no proof, and asking is not something you have to justify.
What happens when you ask
If you ask us to remove a record, it comes off the site the moment you press the button, before a person has read a word of it. Somebody then reads it properly and decides whether the removal is made permanent or the record goes back up, and either way you get an answer.
We do it in that order on purpose. Asking to be taken down creates a wait, and somebody has to carry it. Leaving the record up until we get to the queue would put that wait on you, and you are the one who never agreed to be here.
A correction works the other way round. The record stays up while we check it, because you are trying to make it better and taking it down would be a strange way to say thank you.
What we can and cannot reach
We can stop publishing a record here, and make that stick through every future rebuild. We cannot remove it from the archive it came from. Those are other people's sites, run by other people, and this site can only decide what this site publishes. If it would help, ask and we will tell you which archive holds the record and where to write.
If what you want is a note corrected rather than a record removed, a dog added or a sire or dam filled in, those routes are open to anyone too.
